How many of you remember the Bus and Subway Passes. The bus cost 5 cents each way with the pass and on the subway you paid your 15 cents in the morning and rode free in the afternoon.
Do you remember the old busses with the small windows. Getting on in the morning and rushing to sit on the big seat that stretched across the back of the bus and waiting for some of your other classmates to join you. I came from Flatbush near the junction and had a bus and subway ride combination that took 1 to 1 1/2 hours each way so had lots of time to do my homework reading and sleeping.
It's snowing here today where I now live and I also remember how those busses with bald tires would get stuck in the winter drifts and at tmes all passengers would have to get off and wait for the next bus to arrive.(which would be full and pass us by)
Do you ever remember waiting for the bus with a group of kids and no adults, the bus would slow down, the driver look at you and keep on driving (guess the driver didn't like teenagers)
When I did make it to school on a snowy day usually late, it was the only time I could get away with showing up late without detention.
Any of you have memories of the trip to and from school you want to share ?
